I said goodbye to the last of my skunks yesterday.

Benjamin came to me as a rescue. He lived at a petting farm for the first six months of his life in a rabbit cage with his brother. The owner of the farm told his workers to drown them because he did not want to care for them over the winter. Instead they were brought to me. Benjamin never liked human contact. I only held him a few times when he first came her, and then again a few times just recently. Which was such a shame because he had the cutest face of any skunk I have ever seen. He always looked like a kit with the round face and short snout.

I'm not really sure what happened. His behavior was different since I lost Wilson in July. He wouldn't go upstairs where they slept any more, and he also stopped using his litter boxes. He just pooped and peed in his bed. But his appetite and awake times never varied. Until yesterday morning. He didn't greet me in the kitchen for breakfast. I found him in his bed, and gave him his breakfast there. He came out to check it out and I left for work. When I came home later I discovered his food untouched, and him in his bed.

RIP cutie patootie!
