I am sorry to report that Olivia, one of our friends and our neighbor lost her boy last week.
On Sunday night, I got a frantic call from Olivia at 11pm saying she was pulling into our driveway. She brought her female, Dakota who was unable to walk. From her description, I thought Dakota had a seizure. It was confirmed when she had a grand mal seizure shortly after arriving. I keep DMG and CBD on hand so we gave her some. Before Olivia left, Dakota was able to stand, even though wobbly. She was going to take her to the vet first thing in the morning to try to find out what caused the seizure.

In the morning, she told me Kodiak was not good at all. She loaded her skunks and left for the vet. By the time, she arrived, Kodiak was bleeding from the nose. Turns out that his lungs were badly damaged. Both skunks had been exposed to some kind of chemical and or pesticide. The veterinarian did his best to save Kodiak but 70% of his lungs were damaged. He passed away on Thursday.

Olivia has always been extremely careful with her skunks. She makes her own cleaners and doesn't allow bleach, chemicals or pesticides inside her home. That day, she spent at her mom's leaving her husband at home with the skunks. He decided to bring the chemicals inside as he was redoing the bathroom.

This is a horrible reminder of just how sensitive skunks are. Dakota was her first skunk and she adopted Kodiak in the fall of 2012 from me. She is heart broken to lose him.
