Hello to fellow skunk owners...i have been a member since OCT 2016, just have not had a chance to post here, busy skunk proofing the house for my baby Lulu, and building her fun toys the best toy she likes is the exercise wheel she uses it every night like clockwork, runs and walks for about 6 hours a night. I have it hooked to my computer to clock her miles and speed (up to 8 miles per hour at times) also the revolutions per minute of the wheel about 2500 to as high so far of 3900 turns per night. This looks like the only way to keep a skunk from being overweight from what i have tested. She eats as much as she wants and never gains excess weight. I give her alot of veges chicken etc. plus additives for skunks. She is litter box trained and wants to play all the time, (That is when she is awake and not on the wheel) You can see some of her videos on this link

Welcome to the forum! I love the wheel idea, not sure if an older skunk would be interested.  It must be pretty large unless Lulu is petite. I wonder what mine would think of a wheel?

Hi Maria,
The wheel is 4 foot in diameter and front to back is a little over 1 foot, it is  the same size as a cat wheel. It needs to be 4 feet so she does hit the bottom, to her its like running in a field.Lulu is i guess full grown or close to it in a couple of  months If you look at her on the youtube video link that was the 1st day she saw the wheel and got in it and soon as she noticed how it moved she fell in love with it.
that was march 23rd. now she goes in it every night and runs and walks all night long and stops for a snack in her food bowl until the sun comes up. I am not sure if an old skunk would go right in it but with a treat in your hand it will probably start him/her to walk in it. They do not have to run the wheel turns very easily, to just walk is easy. If you should have someone make one be sure it has a closed back like the one i made skunks do not like one side open it must be a closed side otherwise the skunk may not use it. If you need info to build one let me know. Last night Lulu turned the wheel 3685 turns in the picture Each turn is 12.2 feet times 3685. counter.jpg

I am now working on one for the place i got my skunk from. i found some better bearings then what i am using should have them tomorrow I can email the  info if you want. If you need help along the way just let me know

If you are interested in writing down the steps involved and maybe taking a few pictures of the process, it would be useful to a lot of skunk owners. I would be interested in seeing if any of mine would use it.

OK sounds good to me, this is a project, but will try to do this as i make a wheel for the store. I want to try and simplify the building of the wheel but this will take time. Please do not be in a rush. I will be building it along with building my guitars and salt water reef aquarium filters that i make also. The wheel i made was cut on my c and c router only because i have one for my projects. I will make it using standard tools which everyone probably has Thanks

That wheel is absolutely phenomenal!!! Especially for baby skunks who pace and stay up all night.....I could see starting a skunk on it who is hesitant by hanging something yummy in front then rewarding with a treat after a time of walking. Excellent idea....now I have a couple cats who would benefit!!!!!

Hi Lynnda

My skunk Lulu went right into the wheel, all i did was tap on the inside of the wheel she took a step into it and after walking around in it she noticed how it moves and from that point on she runs in it every night for hours. Yes if you hold a treat in front of the skunk after a couple of turns that is probably all you would need to do
