I just got a skunk about 2 months ago and she’s soooo sweet. But their is one problem, she’s fat. I don’t know if it’s normal. She normally gets fruits, vegetables, eggs and meats everyother day. It’s not a lot of food but I’m worried she is overweight

My fifi is 5 months old and a butterball. My fault giving her wafers. It says if you can't feel the bone 1/2 way up tail she is overweight. Im cutting down as she eats about 4x a day. Walks around the house sniffing till I feed her. Dried mealworms are a good snack

Please post pictures of the rescue skunk. It sounds like she is getting a lot of food, particularly carbohydrates which are not healthy for skunks.

Missouri Rehabber, if a kit/junior is overfed while the bones are developing, the excess weight can damage the bones. There is no way to correct the deformity and the skunk will have to live out their life that way. I have taken many rescues in that were overfed and even after they lose the excess weight, the bowed back legs remain. Generally, there will be painful hip and knee issues later on in life.

An average female (at normal weight) is about 6 lbs full grown. I'm guessing she should be between 4 and 5lbs at this age. She will keep growing so if you discontinue all inappropriate foods and are careful with her portions, she will be all right. Please tell me she is not getting vanilla wafers or anything made with flour and sugar.
