I find myself holding another baby in my arms sitting crying my eyes out for my baby Whip. I know it was an accident, I had no way of knowing the danger that refrigerator was for him, only realized it after he lost his life. None the less I feel so guilty that I failed to protect him. He trusted me to be safe. I know in my heart I did the best humanly possible to take good care of him. I miss you Little Whip! I am so sorry. I promise you to take care of your little brother skunk.
Please search your areas and go beyond what you would consider safe and recheck.

So sorry for your loss..We learned that we had to do more than child proof our home when we received 3 babies  One kept going behind and under fridge we finally blocked it.  the other we lost for 24 hours and found him behind the dishwasher.  I was frantic, thought he got outside.  So Child proofing is not enough to protect them, they need more.

So sorry Terry...we all feel the pain when there's a loss no matter what the reason. However, this is a good time to remind us all to take a second look around, remind family members to keep watch and keep things out of their reach including chemicals and food in cabinets. I once had a skunk who got into a cabinet even though the space between them was only 1 inch wide. Ended up cutting a big hole inside to get him out. No idea how he squeezed in but they are good at it. Do a checkup today. If you have a baby gate, check the corner space on the bottom. They can get stuck there.

Thank you Lynnda for all the good advise. I am re-checking everything so another tragedy can be prevented. My heart aches so.

It seems like the ones that die young are the sweetest ones! It was obvious he was loved from the pictures you took of him.

You will never know how much he was loved. Life being cut short is not fair. It hurts.
