Hi all. New here in Missouri. Im a wildlife rehabbEr. This year I got a week old skunk whose mom was shot. They found babies later and she was the only one that survived. I named her Fifi. She is the sweetest, funniest, smartest creature. Runs free in the house and loves my puppy willow. Uses a litter box. They are illegal in mo but I cannot release her. She's not afraid of anything. I can keep her as a rehabbed, but no vet here will descent or fix her. Is anyone in Iowa with a vet that will?.also what shots do you give? I read ferret shots but no vet will give them to me to give. I do worm her, give her taurrine, and use all natural product for fleas. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum! I don't know of anyone who can descent her in your area. You might want to contact Ruby's Fur Farm in New Sharon Iowa. They are the nations largest breeder of pet skunks. They should be able to direct you to someone since all the pet skunks are de-scented before selling.
Merial Pure Vax distemper was what everyone used for skunks. They stopped making it for a while but have restarted under a slightly different name, Purevax Ferret Distemper.  You should be able to buy it from a veterinary supply store.
Skunks do not need feline shots of any kind since they do not get feline diseases. Canine distemper has been used with varying results. When the original Purevax was not available, some people use Merk's Nobivac Puppy DP. Ideally, you don't want to use combo vaccines but this is only a combination of 2 things, distemper and parvo. Skunks do not get the kind of parvo that dogs do but it is better than giving a combo of 5 things when the skunk only needs one, canine distemper.
Fifi is a doll! Many people live with wild borns who are "loaded".

Thank you Maria! Yes ferret shots is what I have been looking for but vets won't sell to me. They say they have to see the animal but of course won't see a skunk. I have been looking into making a freeze dried food like stompz since its not available. The only thing about keeping her scented is the smell from poo is still that musky smell. She's loose in house but goes in a litter box. Thank you for the wonderful info
